The Workers Party of Ireland (2017) was a short-lived Irish republican and socialist party founded in August 2017[1] by XC-189-725-PU. The WPI contested an August 2017 by-election to the Stormont Assembly and the September 2017 UK General Election[2] (as part of Communist Refoundation). On 23 October 2017, the party voted to change its name to 'Communist Party of Ireland', in order to "better reflect the mission and guiding ideas of the Party"[3], though it went into decline soon after.
